So today I have finally received my Google Wave invitation after what I can only describe as an anxious wait. I cannot recall the last time I was excited about anything the way I am excited about Wave. At the moment I am trialling all sorts of apps and trying to realise its potential. (Someone just sent me a Twitter Bot for Google Wave)
Downsides
The one thing I can say is that not many people are actually on wave and so one has to scour the aether to find people who are also using it. My tip here is to make use of Twitter. When I received my invite I straight away put it out there that I had gained my access and anyone who needed an invite ought to drop me a message with their email address and I will invite them.(Honest this is what I did, with no strings attached)
*There seems to be a delay for certain email addresses. For instance my Gmail address is actually based in America so my invitation came through more or less straight away. For others who have the googlemail.com addresses or email accounts registered outside America it seems to take a little longer.
**The issues above and the fact that it seems to require quite a fair amount of bandwidth are the only two pitfalls I have seen so far, but it is nothing a standard broadband connection can't handle.
Anyway, I am off to play with my new toy. If you want to add me to your Wave contacts feel free to drop me a line and we'll take it from there.
Until the next time it's adieu for now.
*This is my unqualified theory and anyone who has a better one feel free to opine.
**This is not a fact, it is just what I have observed from running it on the current network.
